Gunmen have launched a violent attack on Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Thursday, where they massacred about 35 defenceless peasant farmers to avenge the killing of two of their members by a vigilante group the previous day
Penpushing reports that, the vigilantes had reportedly killed the two suspected bandits on Wednesday after they were found with guns, and in what was described as a reprisal operation, the bandits, following day stormed the area to stage a revenge
The bandits were reported to have arrived the community in motorcycles with sophisticated weapons and indiscriminately attacked people working on their farms in Faru district of the local government area.
.Penpushing further reports that, a source said security agents stationed in the area could not respond to distress calls during the attack, disclosing that corpses of some those killed deposited at a local primary healthcare centre overnight were buried on Friday.
The Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the incident adding that 35 people were killed in the attacks,stating that ”more security agents have been deployed to the area for reinforcement.”
