Governor’s wife cautions girl-child against sexual temptation

The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde on Friday encouraged girl child across the state to discipline themselves against sexual urges and harassment during their menstrual flow.

Penpushing reports that Makinde during an interaction with over 200 schoolgirls in the state tagged, “The girl matters: a day out with the girls of Oyo state” held in her office in Ibadan warned that changes in girl’s body are not license to start having sex, as it can lead to unwanted pregnancy as well as contracting sexually transmitted diseases or HIV AIDS.

The first lady said the interaction was centered on period poverty, the things they need to know, and things they are lacking such as menstrual hygiene and how to manage responsibilities that comes with menstruation as well as understanding the reasons why they menstruate.

Penpushing further reports that, she noted that fear of unknown and other people’s experience should not lead girls in the state to having unhealthy relationship with their male counterparts, urging them to avoid being alone, be disciplined and protect themselves from sexual harassment such as rape and molestation.

The Governor’s wife   urged the girls to always guard against been affected by any kind of germs during their menstrual flow, adding that whatever materials they choose to use while menstruating should be changed often as possible between four to six hours depending on their flow because of stain and body odor.

Penpushing also reports that,the Permanent Secretary, Ministry Education, Science, and Technology, Alhaja Aminat Atere in her presentation said menstruation is not a problem, but a natural occurrence and sign of puberty in a developing child, adding that its a normal vaginal bleed that occurs as part of a woman’s monthly flow.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Christiana Abioye said that the present administration in the state is working assiduously to ensure that there is proper hygiene in schools such as availability of water and hand washbasin.

Penpushing reports that, the Director of Schools, Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Mrs. Christiana Bolaji in her welcome address said that a day out with the girls of Oyo state is equally within commemoration of world menstrual hygiene day which is celebrated on 28th May of every year.

Meanwhile, dignitaries present at the event were Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, Head of Service, Mrs. Ololade Agboola, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, Schools across the State and among others.
