The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday declared that there would be no hiding place for kidnappers and their collaborators in the state, despite the successful rescue of five abducted students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade.
Penpushing reports that Abiodun made this clear while addressing journalists at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, after the students regained their freedom, emphasizing that security agencies had not ended their operation, insisting that everyone connected to the abduction would be tracked down and prosecuted.
“I would like to assure the good citizens of Ogun State that this operation is not over and our security agencies remain on the trail of every individual connected with this criminal enterprise’, Abiodun said.
Penpushing further reports that the governor warned that the state’s crackdown would extend beyond the kidnappers to include their collaborators, informants, logistics providers and sponsors.
“Let me state unequivocally that there will be no hiding place for kidnappers or any other criminals in Ogun State, whether they are criminal offenders, collaborators, informants, logistics providers or their sponsors,” he added.
Penpushing also reports that he commended security personnel for the successful rescue operation, describing it as a product of coordinated intelligence and professionalism, and equally thanked parents of the victims for allowing security agencies to handle the operation without interference, as well as the management of Gateway ICT Polytechnic for postponing examinations until the students regained their freedom.
The governor disclosed that one of the rescued students sustained a gunshot injury to the arm during the incident but had received prompt medical attention and was in stable condition, just as he assured residents that his administration would continue strengthening security across the state, stressing that criminals would not be allowed to operate freely.
Penpushing reports that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed that all five students were rescued on Thursday and taken for medical evaluation before being reunited with their families.
The police boss disclosed that two suspected kidnappers had been arrested and were in police custody, adding that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
