The Governor of Ogun State, Prince  Dapo Abiodun  has commended the Owu people in Abeokuta and districts for blazing the trail to celebrate their departed monarch, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu in a manner that is compliant with the new Obas and Chiefs Law of the State.

Penpushing reports that, Abiodun noted that the celebration of life for Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta, to mark his exit from the mortal world, showed the love, respect and appreciation for the monarch’s contributions to the socio-economic development of Owu Kingdom and traditional Jurisprudence in Egbaland.

The Governor said this explained that the principal objective of the new state’s law is to expunge any odious cultural practice that impugn on the human right in life and death of any traditional ruler in the state.

Penpushing further reports that, in his remarks, former President Olusegun Obasanjo who is the Balogun of Owu, welcomed Owu sons and daughters in Nigeria and in Diaspora and other guests which include traditional rulers from all Owu towns across Nigeria.

The High Chief of Owu and the Principal Regent, thanked Governor Abiodun for his presence and regular support for Owu events, pointing out that every Owu traditional rulers who had joined their ancestors had followed the traditional path

“Every Owu monarch who had joined their ancestors had followed the traditional path in which neither their rights nor the rights of their immediate families were ever tampered with. We give honour to our Obas in Owu both in life and death” Obasanjo explained.

Penpushing  also reports that, for three consecutive days, Oba  Dosunmu who ruled Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta for 16 years was the 14th Olowu in Abeokuta since 1855, exactly 10 months after the first Alake of Ake,  was installed in 1854.

The Olowu’s celebration of life began with a night of tributes where several artistes displayed cultural and traditional music and folklore as well as food to entertain people, and on Saturday, there was a short commendation service at the Owu Baptist Church, Totoro.

Penpushing  reports that, this was followed by an interdenominational service as well as Islamic prayers and traditional religionists service to honour Olowu Kangure.,while music stars including the  legend  Chief Ebenezer Obey entertained guests.
