The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung-Nigeria in partnership with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) have concluded plans in organizing understanding and monitoring civil military relations exchange program for Civil Society Organization (CSOs), Military and Law Enforcements Officers and Think-tanks across the country.

Penpushing reports that the programme scheduled to hold between May 15 – 17, 2025  at Metros Hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital between 9am to 4pm daily is in collaboration with the National Women Platform on Security Sector Reform and Governance.

The central objective of this Exchange is to enhance capacity and promote the collaboration between the military, government agencies and civil society organisations as well as the media, while invitation already sent to participants.

Penpushing further reports that Human rights and Civil Military Relations (CMR) are leading discourse that is popular with relevant stakeholders, including security experts, academics, policymakers and Civil Society Organisations(CSOs).

‘This is induced by the continuous abuse of human rights by both the military and law enforcement agencies, and vice versa. Human rights abuses by members of the security and armed forces evoke deeper emotions than others due to their peculiarity with reference to both training, social, and economic dynamics, and more importantly, general social perceptions. Hence, the need to pay more attention to human rights became paramount’, the organisers stated.

‘Furthermore, the need to get civilians actively involved in civil-military operations cannot be overemphasised. A veritable means of achieving this is to get civilians actively involved in the security sector governance space’, the bodies added.
