A Former Federal lawmaker at the upper chambers of the National Assembly, Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been identified as the brain behind the sponsorship of bill for the approved Federal University of Medicine and Medical Science in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that documents available showed that, Tejuoso representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in 2018, sponsored and read the bill  and other matters connected with it with reference number SP 684 at the floor of the Senate.

‘President, distinguished colleagues , permit me to read, very important bill, the bill for an act to establish Federal University of Medicine and Medical Science, Abeokuta and for other matters connected therewith, 2018 SP 684, I so move’, Tejuoso said in 2018.

Penpushing further reports that, the lawmaker while speaking after his tenure in office, before the final approval of the bill, said he was optimistic that, his successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun will complete the process where he stopped

‘We have the Federal Medical Centre, a federal government institution in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, but we don’t have any medical institution to train Doctors, we all know that one of the major problems of health sector is there is no enough Doctors for the population’, he stated

The bill sponsor added that, the Nigeria has not met half of what is recommended by the World Health Organisation(WHO)   for number of Doctors to patients and he thought if there could be any achievement in the health sector, relative to his own state, the establishment of medical university would be a major one.

Penpushing also reports that, Tejuoso said it was on this, he went out of his way to create bill, which was read by him in the floor of the senate, and equally did the preliminary work, stressing that he was of the conviction that, his successor would continue where he stopped

‘We have not even met half of what is recommended by WHO from number of Doctors to patients, and I thought if there could be any achievement in the health sector relative to my own state and my own constituency, the establishment  of medical university would be a major one’, he said,

‘So that’s why I went out of my way  to create bill and it was read in the floor of the senate by me and  I did all preliminary work, of course I couldn’t finish it up, but am sure my successor will continue from where I stopped’

Penpushing reports, that, Tejuoso was delighted that the bill has come into fruition, and thanked his successor, Ibikunle Amosun for allocating land  for the university while serving as Ogun State Governor, the land fully paid for by the authorities of the Federal Medical Centre(FMC),Abeokuta

‘Meanwhile, the establishment of the university will afford many Nigerians the opportunity to pursue Degree in the field of medicine and allied professional discipline when it commence academic operations
