Former President Olusegun Obasanjo sometime ago shocked his guests during his birthday ceremony declaring that he had no real record of his birthday, adding that all what he knew was that his mother told him he was born on a market day.

Penpushing reports that, it is recalled that the mild drama played itself out in 2014 when he clocked 77, at a party held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

“There are some people including me who do not know their exact birthday. My mother only told me that I was born on Ifo market day.According to her, in our village, she had prepared to go to Ifo market and Ifo market is every five days. She said as she was preparing, she fell into labour and before those who went to Ifo market returned, I was born,” Obasanjo told the guests.

Penpushing further reports, the former President  said he would continue to appreciate God for making his path glorious, stressing that one thing was clear that he was born and no doubt about that.

“Don’t ask me what month or what year. Whether I know the exact date or not, I think God has made my path to be glorious, Kabiyesi Olowu wanted to let the cat out of the bag but he was trying to wriggle out of it but he didn’t quite succeed’, Obasanjo added.

‘Sooner than later, the cat will be let out of the bag by myself but one thing that is clear is that I was born. There is no doubt about that… I know and she (my mother) knew that I was born on Ifo market day. Don’t ask me what year or month,” he stated.

“There are those of us like me who have no real record of birth. I want to thank God once again for what He has done in my life. Whether I know the exact date of my birth or not, I think God has made my birth glorious,” Obasanjo emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that, he declared appreciation for his parents, his community, and those who had worked closely with him in the course of his life, and expressed gratitude to those who had contributed “positively and negatively” to his life, saying, life is sweet and savour.
