The Federal Fire Service Ogun State Command has warned members of the general public, against illegal storage of fuel in their homes, and in kegs as reseviour for vehicles as measure to prevent  fire outbreaks.
Penpushing reports that the Commanding Officer, Rebecca Aduke Muibi gave the caution note on Thursday at the 2022 Fire Safety Day with the theme “Fire Prevention by One, Safety for All” held at the command secretariat, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta the state capital.
The controller noted that, since the commencement of the recent fuel scarcity, it was observed that some people had devised illegal means of storing fuel product in there homes especially in there kitchen and within office premises, stressing need to stop the  act which is almost becoming a trend
“Since the commencement of the recent fuel scarcity, some people had devised illegal means of storing fuel product in there homes especially in there kitchen and within there office premises, this act needs to stop as to prevent fire outbreak and to have a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration”, she emphasized
Penpushing further reports that, the command boss equally promised the command” s commitment towards attending to fire and other emergencies and collaborating with other agencies in ensuring safety of lives and properties in the state.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commandant, Niyi Ajibola  in his remarks  pointed out that there’s need for all inter-agencies to come together stressing that security and safety business in Nigeria is not something one agency can do alone.
“Seeing us together today is in the spirit of inter-agency collaboration and also it goes in line with one of our mandate too. Our mandate on disaster management and so we have to collaborate together because the business of security and safety in Nigeria is not one that one agency can say it has all the capacity to do it alone and in line with this, that is what really made our Commander,General Ahmed Abubakar who recently recently donated this rescue ambulance to NSCDC Ogun State Command”, he stated
“And in the spirit of the season and disaster rescue and on the celebration of the fire service week,as the theme rightly goes that “Fire prevention by One ,Fire Prevention by All”, so that underscores the fact that all hands must be on deck, everyone of us must be very careful and weary of the disastrous consequences of fire”, Ajibola said
“Fire can be a good servant but a bad master, depends on how it is handled, so I want to really urge the public on this occasion, especially in this time of fuel scarcity, that one of the ways of  preventing fire this time is not to store fuel product at home, the fuel crisis will soon be over very soon, you’ll discover that things are changing now, very shortly the fuel will be abundantly available.”
“So do not store petroleum product at home and that is part of the reason and essence of celebrating this Fire Service Week,to sensitize the public and to enlighten us to be very careful about the bad consequences of poor handling of fire”
Penpushing also reports that the Superintendent of Fire,Ilesanmi Paul who spoke on the celebration theme said the message was to re-sensitize the public on fire prevention.
“Our theme for this year is fire prevention for one and safety for all. So what we are trying to pass to the public is that safety first, also prevention is cheaper than cure, so we are trying to sensitize the public in the area of safety of lives and property that is our theme for this year”.
Penpushing reports that, he issued out a telephone number 08022996627 that could be reached by member of the public for emergency need, while at the event some officers were award which include Martins Oluwatosin as best driver of the year, while best writers  were Elizabeth Irobinson, Aishat Tijani  and  Afusat Agoro.
