The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)Ogun State Command has commenced a crackdown on drivers across the state who engage in overspeeding and endanger their lives and those of other road users.

Penpushing reports that the command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, made this known in a statement on Wednesday made available to journalists, explaining that the special operation, led by the State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, was anchored on the corps’ corporate goal of achieving a 10 per cent reduction in road crashes in the state, many of which have been attributed to overspeeding.

The statement stated that during the operation along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Road, the team used a laser radar gun to apprehend 16 drivers for speeding, after which they were booked for the traffic offence.

Penpushing further reports that the statement said the sector commander was also said to have ensured that speed-limiting devices were installed in the vehicles of the offend

“In an effort to achieve the 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal-1 which aimed to achieve a 10% reduction in road crashes through focused interventions. The Ogun State Command of FRSC, after looking into the main cause of crashes in the state which is overspeeding, has launched a special operation to combat this worrisome development.

“The Sector Corps Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, led the special intervention patrol along Sagamu-Abeokuta road and was accompanied by the Head of Operations. The laser radar gun was used to apprehend drivers for speeding offences and also ensured speed-limiting devices were fixed in the offenders’ vehicles. Sixteen offenders were booked for speeding violations.”

Penpushing also reports that the sector commander urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid overspeeding and overloading, as well as  prioritise safety at all times while on the road and assured residents of the state of a safe motoring environment.
