The Nigerian Government has budgeted N500 million for the establishment of a new Federal Medical Centre(FMC) in Daura, Katsina State, the hometown of the out-going President Muhammad Buhari, whose tenure expires early next year

Penpushing reports that, on completion, Kastina State will be the only State with two Federal Medical Centres, while record has it that, the Federal Medical Centre in the state is one of the existing 22 Federal Medical Centres across the states and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The proposed Federal Medical Centre in Daura community is contained in the N20.5 trillion 2023 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by the President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in October,2022

Penpushing further reports that, with the development, Katsina State is billed to have two Federal Medical Centres, as findings revealed that there are 15 other states of the country that are currently without, even one Federal Medical Centre(FMC).

The Nigerian Government as at the time of filing this report has kept mute on the matter, describing it as a policy decision, while the Federal Ministry of Health, based on the six geopolitical zones, four states of Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo in the South-west region have a Federal Medical Centre each.

Penpushing also reports that in the South-South region  only Delta and Bayelsa have one each, while  in the South-East only two states of Imo and Abia have Federal Medical Centre(FMC) each, and in  North-East, five states which include Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe and Adamawa, have a centre each.

The North-central region, record showed that Niger, Kogi, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have one each, and in the North-West, four states of Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara and Katsina also have one centre each.

Penpushing reports that, the findings, however, showed that, this may change soon if the new proposal by the President is accepted and another Federal Medical Centre( FMC) is completed in Daura the hometown of  Buhari in Katsina State.

The investigation revealed that, as at the time of this report, the states without Federal Medical Centre(FMC) include Oyo and Osun in South-West; Akwa-Ibom, Rivers, Edo and Cross River in South-South; Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu in South-East; Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto in North-West; Plateau and Kwara in North-Central, and Borno in North-East.

Meanwhile, record has it that, the distance between Daura and Katsina is said to be 83.6 kilometres, ,a journey of about  one hour, and seven minutes  while travelling by  road.
