A prominent family in Alabukom-Mankon village in the North West Region of Cameroon has narrowly escaped death when gunmen attack their residence.
Penpushing reports that members of the family (names withheld for security reasons) were away on Wednesday when the suspected killers stormed the multi-million-naira mansion in the midnight.
The midnight attack was made known by a close family member, Neba Chungong, who fled to Nigeria about two years ago after he also escaped from armed gunmen attacks.
Penpushing further reports that, Chungong expressed concern over the prevailing security situation in his home country, particularly since government increased ferocious attacks on insurgents who are demanding a separate country from Cameroon.
The Cameroonian stated that his family had been facing persecution since the demise of their late parents who were members of the opposition party in the North West region.
Penpushing also reports that he disclosed that his elder sister’s husband and children could not be found since they had not lately visited their home during the invasion, which caused panic for the neighbours.
The family member explained that his sister (name withheld) fortunately had previously fled the country after she escaped attack where her vehicle was damaged beyond repair.
Penpushing reports that Chungong said her office building was also set ablaze by unknown attackers, while security agencies are yet to arrest the perpetrators as at the time of filing this report.
The family member stated that tension had risen in his home country since some dissidents within the North West and South West regions commenced agitation for a new country out of Cameroon.
Penpushing further reports that he said demand by the insurgents in the Anglophone speaking regions of the country have amplified the tension and insecurity in the areas.
The Cameroonian disclosed that the gunmen, after their invasion and found no one was at home, plundered his sister’s family members’ property and took away some of them with a threat to come back again.
“Just like the insecurity currently going on in Nigeria, the same thing is happening in my country, Cameroun. Recently, my sister and her family members, too, narrowly escaped attack by unknown gunmen who invaded their home in Alabukom village.”
“You only need to watch the video to know the extent of damage after breaking i
nto the house. Definitely, the invasion was meant to maim and kill the occupants of the house, pure and simple.”
“But we are grateful no one was at home, think of what would have happened had these attackers found the family members at home? Your guess is as good as mine.”
“Unfortunately for them, no one was at home. Neighbours, however, overheard them 
saying that they would come back for the family, and vandalise the house if no one is found.”
“Indeed, this insecurity situation in my home country is scary and I am not happy about it at all. And unfortunately, Nigeria is also witnessing almost the same scenario of series of attacks and disruption of lives and properties’.
“They heard them saying that my sister’s family members could not be living well in the crisis-ravaged North West at the time others were facing the Ambazonian guys who took up arms against the government demanding independence.”
