Emirship Crisis: Sanusi, Bayero operate from different palaces in controlling Kano emirate

The dethroned Emir of Kano and reinstated Lamido Sanusi are now controlling the affairs of the emirates, from separate palaces, while the former is operating at the mini palace at the Nassarawa Government Reservation Area (GRA), the latter on his own part is controlling the affairs at the main Kano emir’s palace.

Penpushing reports that Bayero after his removal by Governor Abba Yusuf in collaboration with the Kano State House of Assembly returned from a trip to city on Saturday morning, and thereafter relocated to the mini palace.

The reinstated Sanusi who rode on a horse to the main palace to the sound of multiple gun salutes from the palace guards has equally been receiving visitors which include the Governor, as well homage paid on him by district heads at the palace

Penpushing further reports that in a related development Bayero received the Commissioner of Police alongside other security chieftains at the mini palace, as well as received homages from some district heads and title holders who are against his deposition.

The Commissioner of Police had earlier told the state government to obey a court order halting the deposition of Ado-Bayero and his colleagues in the scrapped Bichi, Karaye, Rano and Gaya emirates, while as at the time of filing this report unconfirmed sources alleged that the federal government was planning to relocate Ado-Bayero to the palace.

The court it is recalled had ordered the parties involved in the crisis to maintain the status quo until the hearing of the interim injunction, scheduled for June 3, 2024, and in response the state government, faulted the order, argung that the judge that granted the order was outside the country when he did so.

Penpushing also reports that Bayero in reaction to his removal urged his supporters and residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course, emphasising that nobody is above the law and that he was optimistic that justice would prevail in the end

“I call on the people to remain law-abiding as we await the pronouncement from the court in this legal matter. We call on the authority to be fair and just in this matter. Kano is like a mirror and an influential state in Nigeria, whatever affects Kano may escalate across. May peace reign in Kano. We pray for Allah to bless Kano with responsible and just leaders.

“Justice is the way to go on every issue. There will be justice. Nobody is above the law. We will accept whatever the law says. I appreciate all the people who have shown concern. We will keep on praying for peace in Kano State. May Allah the Almighty protect us’, Bayero said.

‎Penpushing reports that Sanusi, however, on his reinstatement commended  the Governor Abba Yusuf the Kano State House of Assembly for restoring the state to only one emirate with a first class emir, adding that the authorities have rightly preserved the traditional institutions, unlike in some other northern Nigerian states where he said the institutions have been bastardised

“The Arabians used to say that in everything we witness, there is a lesson that shows us that God is there. Whatever happens to an individual is preordained by Allah, and for those who are sensible enough, it’s a lesson’, he said.

“God is one, and whatever He does, nobody can change, and what He doesn’t do, nobody can. About 10 years ago, in this same place, former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso gave me my appointment letter as the Emir of Kano. Today, after 10 years, I am here again receiving a reappointment letter from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’, he added.

‘Time will not permit long talks. Whatever we needed to say, we said when we were leaving. We made it clear that God has preordained the time and cause for everything and everyone. He gives leadership to whom He wants and at the time He wants. When He gives, no one can take it away, and when He takes it away, nobody can bring it back’, Sanusi stated.

“My Governor and our assembly members, you will not understand the gravity of what you did for the history of Kano and the country at large. Among Kano Emirs, it started from Bagauda over 1000 years ago. In these years, there was only once that we had an emir, Muhammadu Koguna, who was overthrown and came back after some days. This shows that in 1000 years, there has been no case like what happened now’.

“In the northern part of this country, we have seen in different states how politicians have balkanized emirates, with a state with one emir becoming 20, some 19. In states of northern Nigeria, there are local governments with two or three first-class emirs, all because the system has been destroyed’.

‘This thing that has been brought to Kano, had it been allowed, one day we would wake up with Emirs of Kumbotso, Bichi, Fagge, and 44 Emirs. So what the government and the assembly did is a rescue mission’, Sanusi said.
