The embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has regained his freedom after meeting his bail conditions of N300million granted him by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja in November

Penpushing reports that Emefiele had been detained at the Kuje Correctional Centre for him to meet the conditions of bail granted him, while the bail also requires him to produce two sureties in like sum

The spokesperson for the detention centre, Adamu Duza, however confirmed the release of Emefiele on Friday at about 2pm having fulfilled the bail conditions that the court set as for his release, hence the need for the authorities to let him go

Penpushing further reports that it is recalled that other conditions for the bail was that the sureties must have certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama district of Abuja, while he was equally mandated to deposit all his travel documents with the registrar of the court and remain within the Abuja Municipal Council.

The former boss of the apex bank was on November 18, 2023 arraigned on six counts of procurement fraud, and was also accused of abusing his office by approving a contract for the acquisition of 43 vehicles totaling N1.2 billion from 2018 to 2020.

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that Emefiele was arrested by security operatives in June after President Bola Tinubu suspended him from his position as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, while spokesperson of the State Security Service (SSS) Peter Afunanya, explained that  Emefiele was arrested for some investigative reasons.
