The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) has called for deployment of military personnel to provide security at the broadcast media houses in the country during the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that the call was contained in a statement by Executive Secretary of the body, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, in reaction to the Tuesday marauders attack on AtlanticTelevision Network and Wish 99.5 FM stations located at Ozuoba area, Portharcourt, River State Capital.

The statement said the attackers invaded the stations wielding guns and other dangerous weapons and subsequently vandalised the equipment of the two stations located in the same premises, describing the attack as callous, barbaric and highly uncivilised

‘We have received the report of attack made by yet to be identified marauders on the the AtlanticTelevision Network and Wish 99.5 FM  stations located at Ozuoba area, Portharcourt, River State in the early hours of today Tuesday February, 22,2023’, Bamgbose wrote.

Penpushing further reports that Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) explained in the statement that any attack on any media organization is an attack on the entire citizens which should not be allowed to happen.

‘The attackers wielding guns vandalised the equipment of the two stations located in the same premises. This attack to say the least is   callous, barbaric and highly uncivilised. Any attack on any media organisation is an attack on the entire citizens which should not be allowed to happen’, the statement reads.

‘We call on Police and DSS to swing to action to fish out the mastermind of the dastardly act. This ugly development has reinforced the call made last week by BON for provision of adequate security for the media houses across the country’.

‘We therefore call on the National Security Adviser General Babagana Moguno to  consider as a matter of urgency the deployment of military personnel to provide security at the broadcast media houses in the country during the election period’.

Penpushing also reports that the organization appealed to the Inspector General of Police on need to instruct police formation across the country to as a matter of urgency provide security for Radio and Television houses in each State to prevent the occurrence of the unfortunate incident.

‘In the meantime, we call on the Inspector General of Police Alhaji Alkali Baba to direct the police formations across the country to speedily provide security for Radio and Television houses in each State to prevent the occurrence of the unfortunate incident. We would like to remind media practitioners to live above board by adhering tenaciously to professional standards’, Bamgbose emphasized
