The 137 year-old custodian of the Olumo rock, in Abeokuta, Ancestress Sinatu Sanni, popularly called ‘Iya Olumo’, has been reported dead on Wednesday at her Itoko residence in the ancient town after a brief illness

“Mama lived in one of the enclaves under the rock for more than 40 years where she served the gods of the rock. Mama will be 138 years old by August 5. She died after a brief illness. She was the mother of the diety. We are going to miss her a lot. Mama lived her life for the rock, for the diety. She was dedicated to the gods”, the son said

Penpushing further reports that, the history of Olumo rock has it that, it was a revered mountain for the natural refuge for the Egba people during the 19th-century inter-tribal warfare, and it  is equally believed that the rock is inhabited by spirits
