Suspected cultists wearing masks embarked on supremacy battle over control of the revenue from a market in Swali community in Yenagoa of Bayelsa State resulting in the death of four people.

Penpushing reports that the supremacy battle involved two rival cult groups, Greenlanders and Bobos having arrived at midnight in a Toyota Hilux truck armed with AK-47 rifles and shot indiscriminately at the residents.

The eyewitness account said on Tuesday that the incident happened on Easter Sunday, adding that several residents of the community were equally injured in the attack, and responding to the incident a member representing Yenagoa Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa House of Assembly, Hon Ayibanegiyefa Egba condemned the attack.

Penpushing further reports that the lawmaker, who visited the community on Tuesday, said, the attack was brutal, appealing to residents to be united and vigilant in the face of the ugly development

“This attack is brutal. I condole with the families of those who have lost loved ones. I called on all the residents to be united and vigilant in the face of this incident. I call on the youths to shun external influences and vices that can truncate their lives’, Egba said

Penpushing also reports that the Balyesa State Police Command Public Relations Officer Musa Mohammed, confirmed the attack explaining that security has been beefed up to restore normalcy in the community.

“Normalcy has returned to the community and security measures have been put in place to ensure no further breakdown of law and order or destruction of lives and property’, Mohammed stated.
