The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, after a five-hour standoff with agency operatives who trailed him to his Unity House private office in Abuja.
Penpushing reports that, Okorocha who is now a serving Senator had repeatedly been invited by the commission in connection with multiple corruption allegations against him, but reported to have shun the invitation
The source on Tuesday as at the time of filing this report, said Okorocha is being interrogated at the agency headquarters, while details of the allegations against him are still sketchy, but his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, confirmed the arrest
Penpushing further reports that, Onwuemeodo, said his boss arrest was based on an old petition written by the Imo State Government, adding that he was not sure if the commission has a new matter with the former Governor.
“I don’t think EFCC has a new matter with Okorocha. Remember that after he left as governor, the (Imo) state government wrote petitions against him, the EFCC came and investigated this matter.
“The matter between Okorocha and EFCC has been pending in various courts, it is not a new matter. Unless they must have invited him to come and clarify one or two issues. Everybody is here, including his lawyers. At the end of the day, when they finish talking with him, we can now know what to do”, the media aide said
