The Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday   sentenced the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, Abdulrahman Adedoyin, to death by hanging over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a post-graduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University.

Penpushing reports that the deceased a Business Administration (MBA) student of the university, it is recalled had travelled from Abuja to Ile-Ife to write his examination and lodged in the hotel, ahead of his examination.

The student was later declared missing on November 1, 2022 by his family and reported to the police on November 7, 2021, few days later after investigation the Osun State Police Command in a statement disclosed that the missing student was found dead

Penpushing further reports that  the police in the investigation found the corpse of the student in a shallow grave some few kilometers on the Ibadan-Ife expressway, and later exhumed for postmortem, while Adedoyin and some other suspects were arrested

The son of Adedoyin, the owner of the Hilton Hotel and Resort, was reported to have evaded police arrest, and it was not clear if he was eventually arrested, while the arrested suspects were thereafter arraigned in court

Penpushing also reports that the court in the judgment, equally sentenced to death two others who were found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder of the 37-year-old student said to be the bread winner of the family.

The Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo, while delivering her judgement on the case held that the circumstantial evidence available to the court pointed to the killing of Adegoke while being a guest at the hotel owned by Adedoyin.

Penpushing further reports that the judge declared that Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box did not help him, as the circumstantial evidence had shifted the burden of proof on him, while Adedoyin the hotel owner and three others were sentenced to death, three other staff members of the hotel which include; Magdalene Chiefuna, Lawrence Oluwole and Adedeji Adesola, were discharged and acquitted by the court.
