An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has nullified the selection and installation of Oba Afolabi Olaoye, a pastor of the Redeem Christian Church of God(RCCG) as the new Soun of Ogbomoso, and equally ordered fresh selection process

Penpushing reports that it is recalled that the cleric and international businessman, was selected few weeks ago by the kingmakers as the new Soun of Ogbomoso, a selection that was then approved by the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, on September 2, 2023.

The clergyman was thereafter installed by the kingmakers on September. 8, 2023, but one of the contenders of the stool Kabir Olaoye kicked against the choice of Pastor and filed a motion before the court emphasizing that he was not eligible for the position of Soun of Ogbomoso.

Penpushing further reports that the plaintiff argued that the selection of Afolabi Olaoye did not follow due process and did not comply with the Ogbomoso Chieftaincy Declaration and prayed the court to nullify the selection and installation, as well as order the kingmakers to commence a fresh selection process.

The presiding judge, Justice K.A. Adedokun,in his ruling on Wednesday  nullified the cleric selection and installation and equally went on to restrain Governor Makinde, the Attorney-General and the Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters in Oyo State.

‘Either by themselves, agents or officials, they are restrained from presenting any instrument of office in any form of ceremony or issuance of certificate of installation to Afolabi pending the hearing and final determination of the mandatory injunction already filed before the court”, the judge ruled

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that the stool of Soun Ogbomoso had become vacant after the demise of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, in December 2021 at the age of 95 after he reigned for 48 years.
