A military group identified as the Patriotic Movement for Safeguard and Restoration (MPSR) on Monday dislodged Burkina Faso Government led by President Roch Kabore, and equally suspended the country’s constitution.
Penpushing reports that the mutinous soldiers announced the sack of Kabore administration in a statement signed by lieutenant colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba which was read by another officer, Sidsoré Kader Ouedraogo on a state television
The coup plotters declared that the takeover had been carried out without violence, adding that those detained were in a secure location and in the same vein, announced dissolution of the national assembly and closed the borders of the West African country.
Penpushing further reports that, the military said the embattled Kabore could not tackle security issues and unite Burkinabes, a development which led to toppling the government, adding that the coup had brought together all the components of the defence and security forces.
“In view of the continuing deterioration of the security situation which threatens the very foundations of our country, the manifest inability of the power of Mr Marc Christian Kaboré to unite the Burkinabé to deal effectively with the situation…,” the group said.
‘Deposing the government is a decision taken with the sole aim of allowing our country to get back on the right track and gather all its forces to fight for its territorial integrity, its role of the CEMA and its sovereignty”, the coupists declared
Penpushing also reports that, the soldiers explained that all those arrested in the wake of the coup are being detained in a dignified manner, with pledge that, they (coupists) will continue the respect for international commitments, including human rights.
Meanwhile, it is recalled that the coup in Burkina Faso is the latest in the region with similar coups recorded in Chad, Mali and Guinea, which are all in the African continent.
