The Nigerian government said  it is has no plan for  a lockdown of any part of the states,in view of  the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, explaining that lockdown stifles economic activity.

Penpushing reports that Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire made this clear while speaking with journalists on Thursday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), explaining that a lockdown can only be considered as a ‘last measure’

“Lockdown stifles economic activity, restricts your own freedom and your business: corporate business, government business, private business all are affected. “When we were compelled to have that lockdown at the beginning, we learnt a lot of lessons;, he emphaised”

“You know, at that time, government provided palliatives to reduce the impact of it: if you couldn’t go to market if you couldn’t do your business. But this is not what government is aiming to do, no government wants to do a lockdown’, Osagie added.

Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that Nigeria implemented a nationwide lockdown for a few weeks last year in the early period of coronavirus, while the government said it has learnt its lessons from the lockdown.

The country  is currently experiencing the third wave of coronavirus, with records showing  relatively high figures, while as at Wednesday.  Nigeria recorded 790 cases of coronavirus, established as the highest as at the time of filing this report.
