The 50th coronation of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi earlier scheduled to hold this January has been postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.

Penpushing reports that the monarch in a statement personally signed by him noted that against the backdrop of the current global pandemic of coronavirus, there is need for the postponement with respect for the sanctity of human life

The royal father said that after consultation with his traditional cabinet known as Oyomesi, it become necessary to postponed the formal program till after the pandemic might have fizzled out.

“Part of the factors responsible for the postponement is the logistics affecting the social distance rule and the needs of harbouring visitors from abroad mandatory two weeks isolation which might not be verified.”.

Penpushing further reports that the first class traditional ruler however regretted any inconveniences caused by the postponement, saying that sanctity of human life is more important than any social engagement.

The royal father who ascended the throne of his forefathers on November 18, 1970 at the age of 31 will be 50 years on the throne this January.

Penpushing also reports that, adequate arrangements have been made for the elaborated thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate  the occasion because all those who know the importance of Alaafin stool to the Yoruba nationhood both at home and in the diaspora had indicated their intention to be physically present on the occasion but coronavirus pandemic has stalled the event
