The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) Ogun State branch on Wednesday held its 2025 Annual Learning Engagement and Mentoring Opportunities (LEMO), alongside the Annual Bankers’ Dinner and Awards, with participants drawn from tertiary institutions across the state.

Penpushing reports that the programme, themed “Trade and Exchange Rate Volatility: The Role of the Banking Sector for Economic Growth and Stability,” took place at the DLK Event Centre, along Moshood Abiola Way, Abeokuta, and featured mentoring sessions, academic competition and recognition of outstanding student performance.

The Chairman of the institute in Ogun State, Mr. Isaac Arokun, in his opening remarks, said the Learning Engagement and Mentoring Opportunities (LEMO), initiative was designed to mentor young bankers and students, stressing that banking remains a noble profession with vast opportunities.

Penpushing further reports that he explained that the programme was named in honour of former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Tunde Lemo, to promote professionalism and leadership in the sector.

The chairman pointed out that professional banking qualifications add value to academic credentials, assuring participants that the future of the banking industry depended on their competence and commitment.

Penpushing also reports that he equally announced that winners of the competition would benefit from mentoring opportunities, special CIBN examination registration and participation in national programmes, while the top three schools would join members of the institute at the Annual Bankers’ Dinner.

The highlights of the event was an inter-institutional competition involving Olabisi Onabanjo University, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, and DS Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori.

Penpushing reports that at the end of the competition, Olabisi Onabanjo University emerged first, receiving a cash prize of ₦50,000, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade placed second and was awarded ₦30,000, while Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic finished third with a prize of ₦20,000.

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro came fourth, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic fifth, and Adegbenro Polytechnic sixth, with each of the last three schools receiving ₦10,000, with certificates of participation presented to all the competing institutions.

Penpushing further reports that the institute’s Technical Secretary, Dr. Kunle Adefisoye, and a member of the planning committee, Dr. Femi Awoyomi, earlier emphasised the importance of translating classroom knowledge into practical banking experience through mentoring and competitive learning platforms.
