A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has sentenced controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly called Bobrisky to six months in jail without the option of fine for abusing and mutilating the Naira notes.

Penpushing reports that it is recalled that Justice Abimbola Awogboro had last week fixed the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with the N490,000 by spraying brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Kirikiri Medium Security Prison

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier arraigned Bobrisky, who in his allocutus, told the court that he was not aware of the law on abusing the naira, adding that he is a social media influencer with over five million followers and should be given another chance to use his platform to inform and educate his followers about spraying money.

‘I know, My Lord. My Lord, I wish that you could give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money. I would do a video on my page and I will educate people about spraying money. I will not repeat it again. I regret my actions’, he said

Penpushing further reports that section 21 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007 states that a person who tampers with a coin or note issued by the bank is guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable for imprisonment for a term not less than  six months or to a fine not less that N50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment.
