The popular broadcast journalist, Chief Olalekan Shoyinka has formally declared his interest for chairmanship position of the Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun state under the platform of Action Democratic Party (ADP).
Penpushing reports that Shoyinka popularly called “Ayinla Egba” made the official declaration on Friday at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, located in Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta, the state capital, stressing that he wants to rule to address poverty being faced by the residents of the council.
‘My decision to contest for chairmanship position of Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State in forthcoming local government elections is not without a reason. My primary ambition is to alleviate the challenges our people face from lack of good governance and maladministration so this will not only avail me the opportunity to serve but to change the face of governance in my local government. I took the decision to contest in the interest of the people whose mandate I hold in trust and I am more inclined to respect this interest”, he said.
Penpushing further reports that he emphasized that his desire is to act as a catalyst towards repositioning the lives of the people in the communities, and equally highlighted his priorities if given the chance.
The candidate said this include qualitative education in the 56 public primary schools within the local government area, employment generation, poverty reduction, economic growth, food security and by extension, improved revenue for the local government among others.
‘When elected Chairman, I will operate the cycle of ‘O’ and not ‘Q’ which means resources will go round all within our operational circle and not with me alone. As I urge my people to give me the baton of leadership, I will try my best to relay life impactful developmental dividends to all’.
‘I rely on your votes to translate the cry for good governance at the grassroots into reality. I have the interest of the people at heart, vote for me and all our councilors who are people known in your various communities as people with impeccable characters we shall not disappoint you”, he added.
