A news anchor with Arise Television Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu has been killed by armed robbers at her home in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday.

Penpushing reports that the management of the station confirmed the tragic death of Maduagwu, in a statement added that she was 29 as at the time she was killed, lamenting that the journalist, affectionately known as “Sommie,” succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident, which is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.

The management in the statement said Maduagwu was a prominent and vibrant voice for the broadcaster, serving as a News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer, stressing tha her engaging on-air presence made her a familiar and trusted figure to viewers.

“Sommie was not only a cherished member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers. Beyond the airwaves, Sommie was a lawyer who was a professional and supportive colleague and a friend to many”, the station wrote

The news has sent shockwaves through the media industry and among her viewers. Colleagues and friends have begun paying tribute to her on social media, remembering her professionalism, passion, and bright spirit.

Penpushing further reports that in its announcement, the ARISE News management expressed its profound shock and called for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits.

“The network extended its deepest condolences to Maduagwu’s parents, siblings, and extended family, stating, Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu was born on December 26, 1995. She was 29 years old’, the statement added.
