The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom was on Tuesday arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over an alleged N700 billion fraud.
Penpushing reports that sources disclosed that Udom, who served as Governor between 2015 and 2023, on arrival at the agency headquarters in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) around 12:20 p.m. was interrogated and thereafter thrown into custody

Penpushing further reports that the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking, in the petition alleged that Udom received N3 trillion from the Federation Account for over eight years but left behind a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid N300 billion for ongoing projects.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), source added that the former Governor was equally accused of being unable to account for N700 billion, adding that findings uncovered the withdrawal of N31 billion in cash from a single account named “Office of the Governor.”
Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this the report Head of Media and Publicity, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dele Oyewale, was yet to make any official statement on the development.
