The Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) known as “Amotekun” has disclosed that  it has arrested no fewer than 243 suspects over various offences in its two years of operations in Ekiti State and environs.

Penpushing reports that, Ekiti State Commandant of the network, Joe Komolafe disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, on the activities of the security network since its establishment in the state

The retired Brigadier-General, added that the offences for which the suspects were arrested ranged from alleged kidnapping, robbery, burglary, cultism, rape, human trafficking, drug related offences, farmers/herders clashes among others.

Penpushing further reports that, Komolafe explained that the efforts of his personnel and government support had helped reduced criminal activities in the state, attributing the success of the network to the efforts put in place by Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The commandant who admitted that no society globally was completely free of crimes and criminals, in same vein, admitted the support of  other sister security networks in the state, for the success story which he said had reduce crime rate to barest minimum in the state.

Penpushing also reports that, he urged Ekiti residents not to shield criminal elements in their area, and listed some of the challenges facing the security network to include absence of sophisticated weapons to combat the criminals, lack of adequate, correct and timely information and the failure of the people to make themselves available as witnesses in the trial of suspects.

The commandant charged well-meaning Ekiti sons and daughters, home and in the Diaspora to invest more in the security network of the state, emphasizing that security is everybody’s business that should not be left alone for government.

Penpushing reports that, Komolafe, while appreciating some individuals and communities that have reached out to the organisation also appealed for more financial assistance to ease the burden of security on government.
