An alleged Android mobile telephone thief, identified as Eyo has been set ablaze by angry at Atimbo area of Calabar Municipality Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River, an action described as jungle justice.

Penpushing reports that an eyewitness account said the victim known for petty stealing around the area and had been warned to desist from such, but met his brutal death from the mob hours after he committed the crime on Saturday

The witness, who does not want his name in print said the victim had earlier escaped from the scene after committing the crime on Saturday, but luck ran out against him when he was seen on Sunday, and was subsequently descended on.

Mobile phone, smart phone, phone, network, MTN, Glo, Airtel

Penpushing further reports that the witness added that when  the 22-year-old Eyo was apprehended, the mob beat him with cutlass and thereafter set him ablaze, adding that he was known to be addicted and notorious in stealing

“I have known Eyo from secondary school, he has always been stealing, there was a time he stole half of the class school fees. Even as we grew into our 20s, Eyo became audacious in stealing and more notorious, he was always caught stealing, this is not the first time a mob action was carried out on him, he only met his end today. They started by beating him with cutlass before setting him ablaze. Funny enough, it’s just for stealing an android phone,” he explained.

Penpushing also reports that the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations Officer,, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident and decried the act, stating that  it was unlawful for people to take laws into their hands,

The police spokesperson pointed out that the rightful thing to do was to have reported the suspect to the nearest police station in the area, stressing that killing the suspect was the most gruesome manner through mob action, and that that was barbaric, illegal and unacceptable.
