The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is now facing supremacy tussle which is a fallout of selfish interest of some chieftains of the party, on who get the party ticket for the presidential race ahead of the 2023 general election.

Penpushing reports that the crisis is being traced to the sudden pronouncement of Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as the consensus candidate by the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, which the Northern Governors spontaneously kicked against and insisted that the party should pick its presidential candidate from the southern part of Nigeria.

The resolution of the Northern Governors under the platform of the party, which was reported to have being endorsed by President Muhhammadu Buhari, was however, denied by Buhari, who in a statement declared that he has not endorse any candidate

Penpushing further reports that, Buhari later met with the asprants and other stakeholders enjoining  them to come to a consensus in producing  a candidate before the convention  of the party scheduled to hold between Monday and Wednesday.

The President also on Monday met with the Northern Governors ordering them to meet with the National Working Committee to work out modalities in producing a well acceptable and consensus candidate for the election.

Penpushing also reports that, Governor Simeon Lalong, who briefed journalists on behalf of his colleagues after the meeting with Buhari explained that they took the position to support power shift to the southern part of the country in the spirit of fairness.

The Governor explained that before they could convey their position to the president, the matter got leaked, and had to apologise to the President, while in the same they restated their position at the meeting with Buhari

Penpushing reports that Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State while corroborating Lalong explanation, said the stance of the northern governors that power should shift to the south was for fairness and equity.

“We looked at the totality of the issues in our country and we believe APC with a President that has delivered democratic dividends across the breadth of the country and 22 Governors, has everything going for it.

“What is the political brinkmanship that we need to bring so that every component of Nigeria will feel important. It is to allow opportunity for other parts of the country. And this is a step that will bring more peace and resonate with every part of Nigeria,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that  Governor Nasir El-Rufai, of Kaduna State  in his own contributions said out of the 14 Governors under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Northern states Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State who is also an aspirant, took a different view, with arrangement of zoning the presidency to the south.
