The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun East Senatorial District on Monday endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as consensus candidate for senatorial district ahead of 2027 elections
Penpushing reports that the endorsement took place during the stakeholders meeting of the party held in Ijebu-Ode, which had in attendance party stalwarts, which include members of Ogun State House of Assembly, women leaders and local government chairmen.
The meeting focus on deliberation on the district’s political direction ahead of the next general elections and a unanimous decision was arrived and thereby declared support for Abiodun for the Ogun East senatorial seat.
Penpushing further reports that a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) said the decision was reached after extensive consultations across the district, emphasizing that it was a collective decision
“This is a collective resolve of stakeholders in Ogun East. The governor has demonstrated capacity, and we believe he will represent the district effectively at the Senate,” the source said.
Penpushing also reports, a current Senator representing the Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel has alleged that he was barred from being part of the stakeholders meeting and declared the process as null and void.
The former Governor said to be eyeing second slot to represent the district was sighted in a video addressing party supporters from his white campaign bus, branded with the OGD/PBAT Movement.
“We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred; we are told that we can’t enter, but let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void’, Daniel said
Penpushing reports that a political aide to the governor, Biyi Adeleye, while reacting to Daniel’s allegation of being locked out from attending the meeting, said the former Governor was at no any time barred
“We didn’t stop him. The restriction was on vehicles due to security concerns. He was asked to come in as an individual participant, but he declined,” Adeleye said.
Penpushing further reports that after the stakeholders meeting former Senator who represented the Ogun East Senatorial District at the national assembly, Senator Lekan Mustapha announced the adoption followed with voice votes by stakeholders
