African Committee of Experts to train journalists on child rights, welfare reportage

The African Committee of Experts on the Right and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) has concluded arrangements on virtual training for Media Practitioners and Child Rights Defenders, scheduled to hold on Monday.

Penpushing reports that, a statement for participants across the globe made available by the secretariat of the committee explained that, the virtual training is slated to start from 12pm for participants from West, Central and Southern Africa

‘We thank you for registering for the Virtual Training for Media Professionals and Child Rights Defenders organized by the ACERWC Secretariat. Kindly note that the training will take place on Monday 20th December 2021 from 12:00 (SAT) for participants from West, Central and Southern Africa’, the statement said.

Penpushing further reports that, the committee disclosed that a zoom link has been provided for participants to join the training, and gave the address as https://zoom.us/j/95500823963?pwd=d0psL01HQlhxUWFETldLRnlZNjFIQT09

The statement said highlights of the training include: welcome remarks by chairperson of the committee, opening and training objectives, as well as introduction of the facilitator, all these are steps to kick start the training

Penpushing also reports that, this will be followed with module 1: Introduction to the African Human Rights System, and normative framework of the African Human Rights System.

The module 2: African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and its Monitoring mechanism, overview of the Charter, unpacking the substantive provisions of the Charter with a focus main issue for media coverage and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and its mandates

Penpushing reports that, the module 3: Reporting Violations for the purpose of reparation (Beyond Information), the urgent need for a paradigm shift: the role of Media and CSOs in seeking reparations for victims Child rights-based approach of reporting, ethical considerations in reporting on children’s rights and what  child rights defenders expect from journalists

The module 4: Media engagement with the African Committee of Experts on the Right and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), role of media in monitoring implementations of the decisions and recommendations of the committee, role of media in promoting children’s rights and the works of the committee, as well as towards the adoption of African Committee of Experts on the Right and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) guidelines on reporting on children’s rights
