The crisis within the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has again reared its ugly head as two foremost leaders of the group have disagreed over the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the Nigeria’s President-elect.

Penpushing reports that the chieftains of the apex body include Ayo Adebanjo and Reuben Fasoranti while the latest crisis followed a statement on Tuesday after a meeting presided over by Adebanjo in Isanya Ogbo in Ogun State, in which Afenifere formally rejected the results of the presidential election.

The former leader (Fasoranti) who due to age stepped down for Adebanjo in 2021, to lead the group as the acting leader in reaction to the meeting presided over by Adebanjo said the group accepted the results of the elections at all levels as declared by electoral commission that Tinubu was the President-Elect, until otherwise decided by competent courts in the land.

Penpushing further reports that Adebanjo, had earlier rejected the declaration of Tinubu as the President-Elect, declaring that Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who came third, actually won the election.

The acting leader of the group it is recalled had before the elections endorsed Obi, but dissatisfied with the endorsement,  Fasoranti had last year hosted a reception for Tinubu in which he blessed his presidential bid.

Penpushing also reports that Fasoranti  posited that the position of Adebanjo was alien to Afenifere, which does not conduct itself as an agent of the state, let alone as an electoral umpire, adding that it a known knowledge globally that Tinubu is the President Elect in the country.

“Presently, the whole world knows that Nigeria has a President-elect in the person of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a true Yoruba son and nationalist. We in Afenifere not only acknowledge this, but we also take delight in his in-coming Presidency and are confident that he will, by the grace of God, return Nigeria to the glorious position that all of us will be proud of. Which was why I also congratulated him in a personal letter I sent to him”, Fasoranti said
