A retired foremost cameraman with Ogun State Television (OGTV) and former chairman of Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Debo Akinwunmi has been reported dead.

Penpushing reports that sources said the demise of Akinwunmi popularly called African CNN while in active service because of his dexterity in handling camera occurred on Monday morning following cardiac arrest at his private residence at Degun Estate Laderin, Abeokuta.

The Chairman Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Ogun State Council, Comrade Gbenga Fagbenro confirmed the sad incident, recalling that the deceased served as the Chairman of the union at both Chapel and State level,

‘The Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Ogun State Council, regrets to announce the passing of its former Chairman, Comrade Benjamin Adebowale Oluwaseyi Akinwunmi (BAO)’, the statement reads.

Penpushing further reports that the statement added that Akinwunmi born July 3, 1959 dedicated his life to the service of the union and the broadcasting profession, and was a man of many talents.

‘Comrade Akinwunmi, who also served as Chairman of RATTAWU at both Chapel and State level, was born on July 3rd, 1959. He dedicated his life to the service of the union and broadcasting profession’.

Penpushing also reports that the union pointed out that he was widely known for his professionalism and passion, who rose to the position of Chief Cameraman at Ogun State Television (OGTV) before his retirement,

The Chairman said Akinwunmi was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta for emergency treatment and was later confirmed dead, describing the news as a rude shock.

Penpushing reports that the Publicity Secretary of the Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) lamented that passing of Akinwunmi marks a great loss not only to his family and friends but also to the entire union, community and Ogun State Television (OGTV) family.

The statement emphasized that he will be remembered for his humility, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the union’s cause, and prayed that the Almighty grants his family, the union and Ogun State Television (OGTV) staff the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.
