The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has constituted a 25-man Pension Funds Management Committees for the State and Local Government pensions, just as he commended the striking workers for exhibiting maturity

Penpushing reports that Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor Tayo Mabeweje made this known in as statement explaining that the committee was inaugurated a a transformative stride toward sustainable social security for public servants.

The statement added that the constituted two pivotal Pension Funds Management 25-man Committees—one for the State and the other for Local Government employees.

Penpushing further reports that the bodies were conceived as institutional mechanisms to entrench transparency, accountability, and systemic efficiency in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) across the state.

The statement said the inauguration, which took place at the Executive Chambers in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, is not merely procedural—it reflects a deliberate recalibration of the pension architecture in Ogun State.

Penpushing also reports that Mabeweje explained that embedded in the committees’ mandate is the responsibility to provide professional oversight on the CPS, ensure strict adherence to PENCOM regulations, and monitor the activities of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) as well as Custodians (PFCs).

‘Beyond compliance, they are to serve as a bridge between policy and performance, by advising on risks, engaging external professionals when necessary, reviewing remittance schedules, and deepening civil servants’ understanding of their retirement benefits’, the statement reads.

Penpushing reports the Governor while speaking made clear the administration’s intent to institutionalize pension reform as a matter of law, justice, and moral duty.

The committee was constituted in accordance with Section 19, Paragraph 2 of the Ogun State Pension Reform Law of 2006, while the committees also emerge as a product of extensive consultation and negotiation with organized labour, culminating in the recent signing of a Memorandum of Action.

‘This foundational agreement provides a structured pathway to actualize what has long been a deferred aspiration—dignified retirement for Ogun’s workforce. Historically, the state’s pension ecosystem has laboured under the weight of arrears, systemic delays, and the fiscal unpredictability of the old Defined Benefits Scheme’.

Penpushing further reports that the statement stated that these deficiencies have exacted a toll on retirees, reducing their years of service to memories marked by economic anxiety and administrative indifference.

The statement said the Governor acknowledged this legacy and articulated his resolve to depart from that precedent., noting that the CPS, is designed to correct those distortions by embedding sustainability, fiscal discipline, and a future-facing investment outlook into the retirement framework.

‘The establishment of the Committees, therefore, is emblematic of a larger shift—from a reactive, debt-burdened model to a proactive, rule-governed system. It restores public trust, stabilizes expectations among serving officers, and institutionalizes intergenerational equity in public finance. In essence, the reform is not an act of charity; it is a calibrated response to legal obligations, moral imperatives, and economic realities.’

Penpushing also reports that the Governor commended the labour movement for its maturity and constructive engagement, and praised the suspension of the recent industrial action by workers .

The Governor said it was an act of patriotism and a reaffirmation of their faith in dialogue as a tool for institutional progress, stressing that his administration, does not treat labour as an antagonist but as a co-pilot in the journey toward shared prosperity under the Building Our Future Together Agenda.

Penpushing reports that Abiodun emphasized that a government that recognizes the centrality of a motivated workforce, must necessarily prioritize the welfare of its pensioners.

The Chairman of the Local Government Pensions Committee, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale on behalf of the committees expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them by the state government.

Penpushing further reports that he acknowledged the enormity of the assignment but assured that with collective responsibility and stakeholder collaboration, the mandate would be delivered.

The State Pensions Committee. Mrs Arinola Adetayo pointed out that these Committees signals more than administrative diligence—it is a moral realignment and a structural commitment to justice

‘At its core, the constitution of these Committees signals more than administrative diligence—it is a moral realignment and a structural commitment to justice for those who gave their active years to the service of Ogun State’.

‘Governor Abiodun’s actions encapsulate not just the intent to reform but the courage to confront inherited dysfunctions and replace them with enduring institutional safeguards. In doing so, the state affirms that retirement must not be a descent into neglect, but a dignified chapter in the continuum of public service’, Mabeweje stated
