A former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who hurriedly resigned from office following alleged certificate forgery scandal is now pushing to be governor of Enugu State ahead of 2027 poll.
Penpushing reports that Nnaji has ‘secretly’ moved from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite being under investigation over certificate forgery by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The record has it that the former Minister had been a member of the All Progreswives Congress (APC) under which he contested in the 2023 governorship election in Enugu State, but failed at the poll.
Penpushing further reports that his membership of the ruling party became shaky following his resignation as minister in October, 2025, but has neither publicly announced his resignation from All Progressives Congress (APC) nor his defection to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
The former Minister, sources said has been holding political gatherings with some of his supporters and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Enugu State in recent times, while National Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Samuel Anyanwu, faction supported by Nyesom Wike, was quoted to have confirmed Nnaji has now defected to the party.
Penpushing also reports that Anyanwu, however, upon enquiry said he could not confirm if Nnaji had purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) expression of interest and nomination forms to contest in the party’s governorship primary in Enugu State.
The source disclosed that on Saturday, a pressure group Uche Ndi Enugu Grassroots Movement, was said to have been inaugurated for his (Nnaji) 2027 Enugu state governorship bid, where he was quoted to have disclosed his plans for the state if elected governor.
Penpushing reports that the spokesperson to the former Minister Robert Ngwu, as at the time of filing this report has since kept mute over the reported defection of his boss from the ruling party to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that an investigation exposed how the former Minister forged his University of Nigeria Nsukka Degree certificate and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
