The Ogun State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced its 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations, an exercise, which began April 1, and scheduled to run through April 8, 2026, with deployment of deployed both Regular and Special Marshals across all major corridors of the state.

Penpushing reports that the Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, made this known in a statement, adding that the exercise is in alignment with directives from the National Headquarters of Commission, Abuja,

The statement made available by the Superintendent Route Commander, Odunsi Afolabi empasised that this deployment aims to ensure safe, smooth, and hitch-free movement for motorists during the festive period.

Penpushing further reports that Fasakin pointed out that the operation is necessitated by the anticipated surge in vehicular and human traffic as Nigerians join the global Christian community in celebrating Easter.

The statement stated that the command will intensify enforcement against critical traffic violations that contribute to road crashes, including: excessive Speeding and dangerous overtaking, overloading and “mix-loading” (transporting passengers with goods).

Penpushing also reports that others include lane indiscipline and use of mobile phones while driving, mechanical deficiencies, tyre violations, and lack of seat belt/child restraint complianc operational resources and local initiatives

The statement added that the command has equally activated 24-hour patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by patrol vehicles, ambulances, and tow trucks.

Penpushing reports that as a specific intervention within the state, the Sector Commander has directed the Acting Unit Commander of Ota, Chief Route Commander Wasiu Ogunmefun, to carry out strategic traffic realignment at the Old Toll Gate along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

The statement said this includes: closing illegal U-turns and highway access points by realigning knocked-down road kerbs, conducting vehicular traffic counts to provide data for future policy and research.

Penpushing further reports that Fasakin urged the motoring public to take personal responsibility for their safety, stressing that it is only the living who celebrate, and equally advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to avoid distracted driving.
