The 20th memorial service of former Nigeria’s first lady, Stella Obasanjo has been scheduled to hold on Saturday 25, 2025 at the Chapel of Christ King of Glory, located within Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that the service, to start 10am, was contained in an invitation by the family made available to Penpushing Media on Thursday, where number of dignitaries within and outside the country would be in attendance

‘The Family of H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR invites you to the 20th memorial service in honor of their wife, mother, grandmother and late former First-Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Stella Obasanjo’, the invite reads.

Penpushing reports that it would be recalled that Stella, wife of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo died on October 23,2005 at age 59 from surgery complications at a private health clinic in Puerto Banús, Marbella, Spain.

The late first lady was rushed to a hospital emergency department in the southern Spanish resort of Marbella after an operation, at the town’s Molding Clinic, while attempts to resuscitate her failed.

Penpushing further reports that the luxurious-looking Molding clinic is housed in a vast neo-classical building fronted by towering palm trees in one of the more expensive parts of a resort that is a well-known favourite with Arab potentates and developing world dignitaries.

The report then had it that she was in good health before she travelled to Spain, and when she last appeared in public a week before the sad incident she had danced at a wedding.

Penpushing also reports that the husband, who was then the country President received news of her death as he was dealing with a national tragedy, following the crash of a Boeing 737 airliner that killed all 117 people aboard.

The deceased who received a number of human rights awards, became known around the world after she campaigned for the release of her husband, a former army general, when he was jailed in the mid-1990s on a phantom coup.

Penpushing reports that it would be recalled that Director Malaga Institute of Forensic Medicine Antonio García de Gálvez, after an autopsy was completed confirmed that the court was investigating the possibility of medical malpractice.

The remains were committed to mother at President Olusegun Obasanjo’s house in Ita-Eko, Owu Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, with scores of dignitaries within and outside the country in attendance to bid her final farewell
