The first batch of intending pilgrims from Ogun State have been airlifted to Saudi Arabia from the Muritala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State with a call on them to be good ambassadors of the state.

Penpushing reports that the intending pilgrims who had earlier been hosted at a farewell ceremony were beaming with smiles and noticed wearing uniformed Ankara as they filed in into the aircraft

The Amir Hajj, Samsudeen Apelogun addressing the contingents before they took off commended the Governor of Ogun State for his supports, while number of them were seen making phone calls to their families to inform them about their take off from the airport

Penpushing further reports that earlier the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (OGMPWB), Alhaji Ajibola Taiwo in a press statement advised all intending pilgrims to come in their uniforms.

The board had equally warned them to stay clear of prohibited items such as kolanuts, knives, blades, scissors, shaving sticks, among others, warning that these items are not allowed into Saudi Arabia.

Penpushing also reports that in same vein, Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC), urged intending them and others in the country to uphold discipline, be law-abiding, and avoid any conduct whether by omission or commission, that could compromise the success of the Hajj or damage Nigeria’s reputation.

The council under the leadership of Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona made the call in a statement issued by, its Secretary-General Asiwaju Kamaldeen Akintunde emphasizing that this admonition came at the wake of the farewell ceremony held in Abeokuta for the 2025 Hajj pilgrims.

Penpushing reports that Akintunde reminded the pilgrims that the Hajj is a sacred global gathering, and as such, any form of misconduct or violation of regulations could have international repercussions.

The statement therefore encouraged the intending pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors of Ogun State and the nation emphasizing the importance of compliance with the directives of Hajj officials.

Penpushing further reports that Akintunde noted that achieving Hajj Mabrur (a blessed and acceptable Hajj) hinges on cooperation with officials and adherence to established guidelines, and lauded the appointment of Prince Shamusideen Adebayo Apelogun as the Amirul-Hajj by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The council described it as deserved, meritorious, and a commendable choice, adding that Apelogun is known for his devotion to faith and his philanthropy, which has benefited individuals, communities, and various religious causes, especially his support for Hajj sponsorships.

Penpushing also reports that the statement encouraged Amirul-Hajj to work collaboratively with members of the Hajj Welfare Committee to maintain the Ogun state standard and called on the pilgrims to embrace the state’s slogan: “Igbega Ipinle Ogun, A jo se gbogbo wa ni”, (The progress of Ogun State is our collective responsibility) for a successful and fulfilling Hajj experience.

The Consultant to Ogun State Governor on Islamic Affairs Sheik Iskeel Lawal popularly called Sugar while speaking to the pilgrims called on them to exhibit good characters and be good ambassadors of the state.

Penpushing reports that Lawal acknowledged the role of Governor Dapo Abiodun towards the sponsorship and airlift of the continent, which he said include financial, moral and spiritual support
“On behalf of His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun. I stand  on behalf of him to let people know that His Excellency do a good job for us, financially, morally and spiritually. I want to call on you to be good ambassadors”, Lawal emphasized
Penpushing further reports that he equally called on the contigent not to forget to pray for President Bola Tinubu at the holy land on the economy and security challenges the county is facing
