The violent clash between crop farmers and cattle herders in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State following accusation by the peasant farmers of herders stealing from provision stores has claimed life of one person, as well as four other injured

Penpushing reports that the village head of the community, Muhammad Sarkin-Dori, said some residents searching for the stolen items traced the footprints of the suspected thieves to a neighbourhood herders’ settlement.

“We woke up this morning with a provision shop broken into by suspected thieves. Some residents decided to follow the footprints of the suspected thieves, which led them to the Fulani settlement, where the violent clash occurred’, he stated

“The herders confronted the people with the shots of arrows after seeing them at their settlement. It’s not yet clear whether the stolen items were found, but we have appealed for calm and reported the incident to the security agencies”, Sarkin-Dori said

Penpushing further reports that the traditional leader said about five injured persons were referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after their initial admission to Jahun General Hospital, explaining that one Dauda Kafinta, who was declared missing during the melee, was later found dead with bow and arrow injuries.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu, who hails from the area and visited the area to diffuse the tense situation was commended by the residents for his intervention, while he (Speaker) reportedly appealed for calm and ordered an investigation and police reinforcement to restore law and order.

Penpushing further reports that Jigawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer Lawan Adam, as at the time of filing this report could not be immediately reached to comment, while he was still yet to issue any official statement on the incident.
