The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has stressed the importance of birth registration and the National Identification Number (NIN) to foster development in Nigeria, hence, the purpose of the commission in collaborating with the National Population Commission (NPC).

Penpushing reports that the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote, stated this at the launch of the Renewed Hope initiative to accelerate birth registration in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The statement by the Head, Corporate Communications of the Commission, Kayode Adegoke added that the Director General explained that digital birth registration will go down in history as one of the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Penpushing further reports that she commended National Population Commission (NPC) for accelerating and digitalizing birth registration and promised that National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will continue to be a veritable partner in spearheading the country’s social and educational re-engineering.

‘Birth registration is not only important for the individual; it is also crucial for the development of the nation. Digital birth and NIN registration will scale up access to government education, health care and other social benefits not only to the child but to all Nigerians’, she said.

Penpushing also reports that Coker-Odusote maintained that birth registration is a fundamental right and a key component of the nation’s developmental plans, and equally solicited the support of civil society and international partners for the success of the initiative.

The Chief Executive Officer added that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) would continue to provide seamless National Identification Number (NIN) registration for Nigerians, most especially children below the age of 16 years.

Penpushing reports that Coker-Odusote , however, thanked the First Lady of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her steadfast support towards the success of the National Identification Number (NIN) and birth registration in the country.
