Kenyan President William Ruto has retraced his administration step towards proposed new taxes as he disclosed that he won’t sign the finance bill into law, and in declining assent to the proposed legislation, the president pointed out that the bill caused widespread dissatisfaction and he has listened and conceded.

Penpushing reports that the country on Tuesday recorded the biggest protest in decades when the leadership wanted to raise funds to pay off debt, but Kenyans said the bill would cause more economic pain as millions struggle to get by.

‘The bill caused widespread dissatisfaction and we have listened and conceded. It is necessary for us to have a conversation as a nation on how to manage the affairs of the country together’, the president said.

Penpushing further reports that Ruto earlier called protesters’ actions treasonous, saying they would ensure a situation of this nature does not recur again, however, acknowledged deaths, calling it an unfortunate situation, and offered condolences, while he admitted that about 200 people had been wounded.

The Human rights groups it is recalled said at least 22 protesters were killed and scores more wounded on the streets of Kenya, and this include largely young Kenyans, who vowed in social media posts before Ruto’s Wednesday remarks to return to the streets on Thursday for another day of demonstrations.

Penpushing also reports that activist Hanifa Adan said on X that the Ruto’s government cannot kill all the citizens, hence, their resolve to return to the streets to march peacefully by wearing white, in honour of the fallen heroes who would not be forgotten

The chaos on Tuesday led the government to deploy soldiers to disperse protesters, however, one of the protesters Caroline Giathi in reaction emphasized that sovereignty belongs to the people, and therefore demanded for justice, for everyone massacred
