Gunmen have beheaded two persons after invading Ikachi, Akparata Community in Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, and in similar vein abducted number of residents of the community.

Penpushing reports that some residents narrating the incident explained that the gunmen, suspected to be warlords from the neighbouring Ezza Community, attacked the Akparata Community in Effium around 3 a.m.

The communities including Ezza Effium and their Uffiom neighbours within the Effium clan in the Ohaukwu Local Government of the state it is recalled have been engaged in a deadly dispute for some years now.

Penpushing further reports that it is recalled that the violent battle has resulted in the loss of several lives, displacement of hundreds of people and destruction of properties worth billions of naira, while one of the residents identified as Charles Ogbu, confirmed the victims of the latest attack as 19-year-old Obinna Aje and 78-year-old Ogenyi Abowu.

The sources in the community, however, stated that the gunmen during the attack also abducted seven persons which include five females and two males, stressing that the bandits set ablaze over ten houses, while number of people took to their heels, as well as others sustaining gunshot injuries.

Penpushing also reports that the Ebonyi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu when contacted on Monday, he confirmed the killing and abduction in the community, adding that police operatives in the state have launched an operation to track down the killers.

The command spokesperson, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, explained that immediately the incident happened, the command dispatched a team of policemen to the place, adding that security has already been beefed up in the area.
