The Hon Olumide Osoba sponsored bill for an act to provide for the Establishment of Oba Obafemi Owode Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship University in Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday passed through second reading at the House of Representatives

Penpushing reports that the Deputy Speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu presided at the Plenary session and Osoba in his presentation explained that the establishment of the University in Owode was not just a mere legislative action but a crucial step towards realising the aspirations of the people.

The federal lawmaker who Is the son of the former Governor of Ogun State Chief Olusegun Osoba added that the establishment will equally advance the agenda of the legislative House, stressing that Nigeria, like many developing countries, faces the challenge of high youth unemployment and underemployment.

Penpushing further reports that Osoba pointed out that, despite various policy interventions aimed at addressing this issue, the results have been far from satisfactory, emphasizing that there is opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the youth and the future of the country.

‘However, we now stand at a juncture where we have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our youth and the future of our nation. The proposed university aligns perfectly with President Tinubu’s vision of promoting vocational skills and entrepreneurship as drivers of economic growth and social development’, he stated.

‘By equipping our youth with practical skills and knowledge in areas such as agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and services, we not only prepare them for the demands of the modern economy but also empower them to create their opportunities and contribute meaningfully to society’, Osoba added.

‘Moreover, the timing of this initiative couldn’t be more auspicious. As Nigeria continues to experience rapid economic growth and industrialization, there is an increasing demand for skilled workers in various sectors’.

‘From renewable energy to information technology, from healthcare to construction, the industries of tomorrow require a workforce that is not only technically proficient but also entrepreneurial and innovative’.

‘By establishing the Obafemi_Owode Vocational Skills and Entrepreneurship University, we are not just creating another institution of higher learning but laying the foundation for a brighter future for our nation’, he emphasised.

‘We are giving our youth a sense of purpose and belonging, steering them away from the path of crime and violence, and empowering them to become agents of positive change in their communities’, the lawmaker stated.

‘As the Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, I urge each of my colleagues to lend their support to this bill. Let us rise above partisan politics and personal interests and prioritise the collective good of our constituents and our nation.”

Penpushing also reports that while urging support for the bill, he expressed optimism that together the lawmakers can champion the cause of vocational education and entrepreneurship and pave the way for a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the members of the House of Representatives adopted the bill and referred it to the relevant committees for further legislative action.
