The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have elected Prof Bala Audu as the new President alongside other executives during election conducted at the 2024 Annual Delegates Meeting held in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

Penpushing reports that the new set of leaders are to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years, while Founder of the Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation, Benjamin Olowojebutu, was elected the Vice President.

The association in a statement issued on its website on Sunday added that other elected officials include the Chairman of the Benue State chapter of the association, Dr Usha Anenga, as Vice President 2; Dr Ben Egbo as Secretary General; Dr Wale Lasisi as the Assistant Secretary General.

Penpushing further reports that the statement disclosed that, equally elected include Dr Celestine Ugwoke as Treasurer; Dr Harrison Omokhua as Financial Secretary, and Dr  Manir Bature as the National Publicity Secretary.

The statement explained that the elected President was a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Maiduguri, also served as Provost at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and he is the  Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State

“The delegates drawn from Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) branches in the country elected new officers to lead the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for the next two years,” the association said in the statement.

Penpushing also reports that the new officers will lead the association’s activities from 2024 to 2026, after which another cycle of leadership will emerge, while each leadership cycle of the association is expected to last for two years.

The record has it that in the previous election, a consultant dermatologist, Dr Uche Ojinmah was elected President of the association along with some other members, and in same vein, the leadership of the association is known to lend its voice to issues affecting the health sector or the welfare of the workers.

Penpushing reports that the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) is the professional association for Nigerian Doctors and Physicians and parades thousands of members in the country which include those in the diaspora.
