The kingship crisis rocking Ikirun, since the installation of Yinusa Akadiri as the traditional ruler of the town has turned sour as the lingering dispute claimed life of one person, identified as Luqman Omoola, just as suspected arsonists set section of the palace ablaze
Penpushing reports that, the incident occurred on Wednesday, as sources disclosed that Omoola was reportedly shot dead at the front of the palace of Akirun of Ikirun in Osun State, when some persons engaged security personnel
The controversial monarch, it is recalled, that some of his subjects chased him out of his palace, claiming he is not entitled to the throne, while as at the time of filing this report, it was not clear who fired the shot which claimed life of the victim.
Penpushing further reports that, the aggrieved subjects locked the palace gate and tied charms across the gate, while a source said the state government had presented staff of office to the monarch last week at the government secretariat in Osogbo.
“He went to the government secretariat last week to get the staff of office in a silent ceremony. Some people came with police, Amotekun and soldiers, they were trying to open the palace gate. This was what prompted some of the people to come outside and challenge them but it later turned violent’, a source said
Penpushing also reports that the spokesperson for the Osun State Fire Service, Ibraheem Adekunle confirmed the fire incident, adding that .firefighters deployed to put off the fire were attacked by a mob, while as at the time of filing this report, Osun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola was yet to make official statement
