An Akwa Ibom-based televangelist, who is the President and Founder of Solid Rock Foundation Church, Pastor John Okoriko has been abducted by gunmen, after invading the church headquarters located in , Ibekwe Akpanya in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state

Penpushing reports that, the 74 year old cleric reportedly travelled home within the ‘National Capitol,’ 42 kilometers from the Uyo for a meeting with church members and community leaders when the incident occurred.

The source said Okoriko after the meeting, was reportedly preparing to return to Uyo, when the gunmen stormed the church premises and shoot sporadically to scare others away, and made away with him through the bush behind the church, which is bordered by a stream.

Penpushing further reports that, a Bishop and National Secretary of the Church, Linus Ukoenang was quoted saying that the kidnappers contacted the family of the cleric on Wednesday morning demanding a N100 million ransom.

The abduction of the clergyman, as at the time of filing this report has drawn wide criticism from members of the public and is the major topic of discussion in many radio stations in the state.

Penpushing also reports that, in the same vein, members of the church and fans of the televangelist have also taken to social media to announce his kidnap and prayed for his safety while in his abductors’ den.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command Public Relations Officer , Odiko Macdon, was yet to make official statement or reactions in regard the ugly development, as at the time of filing this report.
