The Ogun State Police Command is to embark on 24 hours surveillance on cultists across the state,as well as its environs  and towards this a Special Operation Squad has been set up to commence operations and tackle cult related clashes.
Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known in a statement on Friday, adding that the squad will be led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Department of Operations to fight the  problem and menace headlong
“Following the recent cult related clashes in Abeokuta and some parts of Ogun state, the Ogun State Police Command  in order to checkmate the activities of members of these unlawful cult groups have set up a special operation squad to tackle the problem headlong”, Oyeyemi said.
“The squad whose operation will be coordinated by the Assistant commissioner of Police department of operations, is saddled with responsibility of quick response to any cult related issues and will be operating 24 hours of the day”, he added.
Penpushing further reports that the statement said the Commissioner of Police  Lanre Bankole, while addressing the squad, mandated them to fish out members of the trouble making cult groups in any part of the state and deal with them in accordance with provision of the law.
The police boss who described the activities of the cult groups as unacceptable, directed the squad to clamp down on any known member of such groups stressing that the command will not fold it’s arms while disgruntled elements will be making life unbearable for the law abiding citizens of the state.
Penpushing also reports that he warned parents and guardians to call their wards to order declaring that  the battle against cultists is going to be vicious in days to come, and equally warmed cultists in the state to relocate or ready to face the unimaginable onslaught that is going to be visited on them by the newly created squad and other conventional policemen in the state.
The Commissioner while assuring law abiding citizens  of their safety , appealed to the general public to inform the police whenever they noticed any strange gathering suspected to be that of cultists in their vicinity with assurance that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
