Segun Showunmi in Ibadan

Residents of Wisdom Estate, Olorunda, Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State have petitioned Governor Seyi Makinde over threat to their lives posed by illegal construction on water ways within the estate by some alleged deviant landlords, saying that the construction can endanger their well being.

Penpushing reports that the copy of the  petition  signed by the chairman and secretary of Wisdom Estate Landlord Association, Adegbite Fadebiyi and Nafui Busari respectively was made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The petitioners pointed to impending flood at Road E2 of the estate due to non-challant attitude of some landlords who failed to observed town planning regulations regarding water channelisation, adding that owners of the properties failed to stop work despite several appeal from the people.

Penpushing further reports that the residents maintained that the contraction is posing danger to over 300 households, students and residents within the estate, lamenting that  despite series of letters writing to the Commissioner of Land, Housing and Urban Development, and a Director at Lagelu Town Planning Office, Akobo alerting them of the impending flood disasters, their complains are yet to be met.

“The situation  in the street usually get worse during raining season as the street usually get flooded due to construction of brick walls by the affected landlords in front of their houses thereby preventing free flow of water into the water channels”, the petition emphasised.

“Another infraction is the blockage of a road by a landlord who claimed to have bought a portion of land which supposed to serve as a road at Road 2L along the stream side of the estate and Road 4 within the estate are generating concern among the inhabitants which also required your attention”, they told Makinde.

“This is to call the attention of the Oyo State government to the illegal classroom construction on the road along Aseda Private School, at Widom Estate, Olorunda, Akobo,  Ibadan which has been hindering movement of people in the community”.

“We write to seek your intervention in providing some lasting solution to some observed infractions in our estate. It should be noted that all these infractions has defiled all solutions proffered by the executives of the estate”,they wrote.

“Series of meetings has been held with all the concerned landlords to resolve the matter but all the efforts turned out fruitless. We however requested your visit to the affected area and also do the needful”, the petitioners stressed.
