The Oyo State Governor Engr Seyi Makinde on Saturday briefly participated in the June 12 rally commending the protesters for their peaceful conduct, pointing out  that it is their right to call their government to question when things are not done the way it should.

Penpushing reports that, Makinde was said to be on his way when he ran into the protesters who were expressing their anger against the situation of the country, and thereafter stopped to join them.

The Governor addressed and cheered the protesters around Bodija area of Ibadan, the State Capital, before leaving the venue, while the protesters who had earlier gathered at Mokola marched to Sango enroute Ojoo area of the  ancient city.

Penpushing further reports that, in a related development during the protest rally, heavy security presence was noticed in major parts of the town, as  a combined team of security operatives including men of the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Amotekun corps stationed across strategic places.

The protesters majority who were youths, were seen with various posters, placards and banners with different inscriptions to express their displeasure to the Nigerian government over the unpalatable situation of the country.

Penpushing also reports that, they described June 12 as historic in the political history of Nigeria calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and other political leaders to continue to draw inspiration from the history of the day.

The police brutality also occurred in the early hours of the protest, as a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reporter, identified as Micheal, was slapped by a police officer while trying to record the harassment of protesters by security operatives.

Penpushing reports that, the police officer also seized the reporter’s phone and threatened  to kill any protester who refused to listen to their orders, while some of the security operatives were heard saying the  protest is “illegal on Democracy Day”.
